Top 10 Memories of 2016
I have had alot of great memories in 2016! Here are my Top 10!:
10) Being asked to be a part of YONGE STREET STORIES!
This memory was all about being in the right place at the right time. I was attending a monthly event called momondays, as I usually do & was asked by the manager of Hard Rock Cafe - Toronto, if I would like to participate in the project to show case a personal story I had about Yonge St. in Toronto. I of course said yes, and I shared about witnessing SUICIDE SQUAD being filmed at Younge & Dundas & this is the pic that was posted to the campaign:
9) Facilitating #WorkHardPlayHarderTO monthly in 2016!
2016 saw the launch of #WorkHardPlayHarderTO which is a monthly MeetUp Group that allows for singles and or entrepreneurs to come together for a #MasterMindMeal & #BlockBusterMovie viewing once a month. This is a pic from one such MeetUp:
8) Meeting Mike PINBALL Clemens at the Push For Change Event in Toronto
Ever since I was in high school I had always wanted to meet Mike Pinball Clemens. My sisters and Mom all had met him at separate events and told me what a great speaker and personality he was. I had heard the same things from several friends and colleagues. So this year, knowing that he was going to be at the PUSH FOR CHANGE event at Yonge Dundas Square in Toronto, I went to meet him & speak to him about future speaking collaborations, and got this picture:
7) Being a background actor on Designated Survivor
So, this year I began my journey into the world of Background Acting. Toronto is known as Hollywood North for the amount of movies & TV shows that get filmed here. I have been a part of some great productions including HAND MAIDENS TALE, DOWNSIZING, & DESIGNATED SURVIVOR! The last one is one that was really special to me as I am such a huge fan of that show! Here is a picture that gives you a feel for that experience:
6) Attending TEDxToronto as a delegate finally!
As a speaker, and a TEDxYouth@Brampton alumni, I have always wanted to attend & speak at the annual TEDxToronto Conference. This year I got the opportunity to attend as a delgate, so I am hoping that in 2017 I get to speak at the event! Here is my VISION BOARD pic from that amazing day!:
5) Being surprised by Capt. Sullenburger at the Toronto premier for SULLY
So my friend Jim Pagiamtzis, CEO of 21 Connections & I get FREE passes to movies through a promotion site called GOFOBO (i.e. https://www.gofobo.com) from time to time & this year one of the movies we got to see was SULLY! What we did not expect was to actually hear the man himself be interviewed in person! He actually gave me a smile and wave as he left the stage! Here he is speaking about the events of that day!:
4) Being asked to be a speaker for the pilot weekend program for DECA Ontario
I have been a speaker officially since the summer of 2012, when I spoke for the City of Toronto about my experiences in an Adaptive Summer Camp to future camp councillors for similar programs being run by the city. Not since that talk, have I felt the great positive impact being a speaker has on the world, until I did a tandeem talk with my friend Jim Pagiamtzis who I mentioned in #5, on The Power of Networking AND The Power of ASK for 4 separate audiences of 200 students each! Here is a picture of that event!:
3) Meeting The God Father of Comics, Stan THE MAN Lee @ Fan Expo in Toronto
As a young boy growing up with a disability, I took great comfort in reading about superheros in comic books. I was more a MARVEL fan than a DC fan, so meeting Stan Leet at Fan Expo in Toronto was a big deal for me! We only got a few minutes together, but just shaking his hand and thanking him for the opportunity to escape into the comics when I was younger was a thrill for me!
2) Meeting Toronto Maple Leafs Legends Wendell Clarke & Doug Gilmore @ Gentleman Expo
As a kid, in addition to comics, watching & playing sports was a huge part of my life. I loved to watch as many Toronto Maple Leafs games with my friends as I could! My favourite players were Doug Gilmore & Wendall Clarke. So, having the opportunity to meet both of them this year was pretty amazing! Here is a picture I got with both of them!:
1) Meeting my nephew Rishik for the first time!
In spite of everything, the most important lesson & realization I came to was when I held my nephew in my arms for the firt time. My family has always been important to me. Having been so busy trying to build my empire in the last 5 years, I have lost sight of that aspect of my life. This year I vow to be better at being closer to them. Here is my nephew Rishik!:
There were many HONOURABLE MENTIONS this year like:
Meeting Rev, Michael Bernard Beckwith for the 2nd Time AND Meeting Bob Proctor for the 2nd Time, maybe I will blog about that in a future post! Keep folllowing to find out! ;)
